Over 1,300 pounds of prescription drugs rounded up

Pinellas County, Florida -- Over 1,300 pounds of prescription drugs were collected during Operation Medicine Cabinet on Saturday.

The event ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at various locations around Pinellas County.

Operation Medicine Cabinet began in May 2009. It is an opportunity for citizens to safely discard unused or expired prescription medications.

These events, along with permanent drop-off containers within the community, have collected over 18,000 pounds of medications to date, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
