Pinellas Park officer uses Taser on middle school girl following fight

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - A school resource officer used a Taser on a female student involved in a fight at Morgan Fitzgerald Middle School on Thursday, Pinellas Park police said.

The officer assigned to the school, whose name was not immediately released, responded to an altercation between two female students in the bus circle area at about 4 p.m.

"One of the juvenile females involved in the fight continued to actively fight with the other female student and was refusing to comply with the commands being given to her by the SRO," the department said in a statement. "The SRO continued to provide commands to this same juvenile female who was now physically resisting the officer. The female juvenile then verbally threatened
to strike the officer, and then attempted to run from the SRO."

The officer then used his Taser to control the student, the department said.

The student only suffered minor injuries from the fight, police said.
