St. Petersburg, Florida -- Renowned chefs were in town on Thursday to announce a new restaurant - Locale Market and FarmTable Kitchen - coming soon to St. Petersburg.
Chefs Michael Mina and Don Pintabona greeted a cheering public at Downtown St. Pete's Sundial. "Don cooks more Italian, I cook American California. It's a good mix, though," Mina said.
It's the meeting of the east and west: two chefs, two coasts and one new destination... or Locale. We got a sneak peek at what the market and restaurant will look like. The market is planned to be on the first floor and upstairs, a kitchen sits near a wine bar.
"The northern California sensibility movement -- organic is how people want to eat -- but at the day, you need food that sticks to the ribs too... that Abodonza! feeling of plentiful!"
Mina showed us his cookbook and some of his favorites could hint at what the menu will look like: "Here is my mom and her making her falafel. We will make that at some point, just 'cause they are really good. Roast chicken, pan for a couple days so skin gets brown when you cook it... then truffle macaroni and cheese."
We're told the food will be seasonal and as local as "Locale" can make it.
"Citrus fruits and my God, I never knew there were so many types of grouper!" said Pintabona. "I'm going to try [to make good grouper dishes]. Beautiful fish, I love it!"
People are lining up already with anticipation to try it all, and these chefs hope our 10 News viewers do the same.
Locale Market and FarmTable Kitchen is expected to be open by fall 2014, and construction on the rest of Sundial should be done around that same time.
