TRAFFIC: US 19 in Tarpon back open after 5-vehicle crash

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- The Tarpon Springs Police Department has reopened all northbound lanes following a 5-vehicle crash at U.S. 19 at Klosterman Road that closed the northbound lanes in that area for about two hours Tuesday afternoon.

Tarpon Springs Police say at least two people, a man and a woman in a black Chevy pickup truck, have been flown to the hospital with possibly life-threatening injuries. Four occupants from the other vehicles involved were taken by ambulance to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Two were young children, both were in car seats; one was a 16-year-old boy; and the other was a woman.

A preliminary investigation into the crash indicates that a vehicle heading south on US 19 tried to turn left, or make a U-turn, and entered the intersection directly into oncoming traffic.
