Planned Parenthood extends services to transgender community

Sarasota, Florida -- Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida is expanding its care to the transgender community.

Starting in October, the Planned Parenthood affiliate, headquartered in Sarasota, will offer hormone shots to trans individuals in transition at all its 11 locations. The estrogen and testosterone shots will be given by trained nurse practitioners and general medical care will be offered, too.

“Planned Parenthood has a deserved history of being inclusive and accepting. I think people in the community will feel comfortable coming here and not be worried about secretaries or other patients in the waiting room making a judgment on them,” says Dr. Robert Slackman with Planned Parenthood.

He expects about 100 transgender patients in the first year.

Planned Parenthood has locations in the Bay area including Sarasota, Bradenton, St. Petersburg, Tampa and Lakeland.
