Pole vault trophy fished out of the water

Clearwater, Florida -- Normally, Clearwater's Public Safety Dive Team comes up with routine items such as fishing poles, anchors, sunglasses and the occasional cell phone on the sea floor.

But on Wednesday afternoon under the Memorial Causeway bridge, they came up with something a tad different: a trophy from the Florida Pole Vault Academy's 3rd Annual Beach Vault on Clearwater Beach.

Clearwater Fire and Rescue says the event was held July 19. It's unknown whether the trophy owner chucked it into the water or if it was stolen and then tossed off the bridge.

The Florida Pole Academy shared a post about the trophy on its Facebook page, but offered no other details as to how it met its fate.

The trophy was found in 12 to 15 feet of water during the last day of dive training.

The Public Safety Dive Team is made up of about 20 Fire and Rescue members and three Clearwater Police officers.
