Police arrest man who beat pharmacist during robbery

Temple Terrace, Florida -- Temple Terrace Police have made an arrest Monday in the horrific beating of a local pharmacist during a burglary Saturday night.

Police say 25-year-old Brandon Walker of Naples is behind bars for severely beating 59-year-old Akinbo Babatunde as he worked atOmega Drugs Pharmacyoff 56th Street.

Walker allegedly broke into the pharmacy shortly after 8 p.m. by crawling through a crawl space in the ceiling surprising Babatunde. He then hit Babatundeseveral times with a commercial hole-punch machine while demanding drugs.

He escaped with a small amount of prescription drugs before being caught Monday at a Clarion Hotel in Tampa.

Police say Walker works for Tim Moore Painting Co. out of Naples and was in Tampa to paint a building in Ybor City. Early Monday morning, they say he was involved in a hit and run accident with the company vehicle and boarded a HART bus to get away.

When questioned by a fellow passenger about a mark on his face, he allegedly told them he had been "bitten by a pharmacist." Walker then borrowed the passenger's cell phone to make a call. Shortly afterwards, the passenger called the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office about the conversation they had with Walker. An investigation into where Walker was staying led police to his hotel.

He has been charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, occupied armed burglary, and three other counts of burglary.

Babatunde is currently in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital.
