St. Petersburg, Florida – There is a search under way for the man accused of sexually assaulting a preteen and then running away naked when he was busted by the victim's grandmother.
According to details released by police on Friday, Edward Williams made contact with the 12-year-old girl and arranged to have her let him through her bedroom window.
At some point during the assault around 1:15 a.m. Aug. 7, the victim's grandmother walked in on the assault in progress.
"The grandmother came into the bedroom, she discovered that he was in the bed, she pulled the covers down and he ran off – he jumped through the window naked," said Yolanda Fernandez, spokesperson for the St. Petersburg police.
The 46-year-old is out of bond after following a May 31 arrest for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon with greatly bodily harm and police say they consider him dangerous.
Other arrests for Williams include leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, having no valid driver's license and possession of marijuana back in January and a disorderly conduction charge in April 2013.
"It most cases the person accused of sexual contact is known to the family. It's either a relative or an acquaintance. In this case, it was an acquaintance," Fernandez said.
"Understandably her grandmother and her mother are very upset and they want this man arrest."
