Two men questioned in gun burglary that caused school lockdowns

SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. -- Three Sarasota schools were placed on lockdown Friday morning as deputies searched for suspects in a vehicle burglary incident where a gun was stolen.

Sarasota High School, Alta Vista Elementary and Suncoast School for Innovative Studies were on lockdown for about an hour. All students were reported safe.

Authorities are currently questioning two males who are allegedly connected to the burglary of a firearm from a locked vehicle at the Sarasota Ford dealership. The report corrects an earlier statement from Sarasota Police which stated that the gun was taken from an unlocked vehicle. According to the release, a window was broken which allowed the burglars to gain entry.
