Amtrak crash kills woman in Lakeland

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office is responding to an Amtrak crash with a pedestrian Thursday afternoon.

A woman has been killed in the crash that happened around 12:45 p.m. at the intersection of Hwy 92 E. and Fairway Ave. in Lakeland, according to deputies. 

The victim of the crash has been identified as 60-year-old Brenda Salyers of Lakeland. 

Deputies shut down Fairway Ave. in the area of Hwy. 92 E. and E. Main St. while authorities investigated the scene. The area has been reopened.

There were no reported injuries to any of the crew or passengers on the train. Train 91 will continue on to Miami once service resumes.
