Man killed after shooting at Polk deputies

POLK COUNTY, Fla. -- Polk County deputies were involved in a fatal shooting with a man Monday evening following a traffic stop.

Quinton Lewis Case, 34, of Winter Haven, Fla., died in the shooting at the traffic stop around 6:30 p.m. Monday in unincorporated Lake Wales, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy decided to stop a motorcyclist that was going more than 100 mph. Once the deputy arrived at Lake Mary Road, the motorcycle was laying on its side.

As deputies got closer to the motorcycle and put their lights on, the driver pulled out a gun and began shooting. Shots were exchanged between deputies and the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist was killed in the shooting.

The responding deputies had no reported injuries.

Case has an extensive police record and had an active warrant for a deadly weapon charge and possession of methamphetamine charge.

Officials will continue to conduct an ongoing investigation and the deputies involved will be put on administrative leave as part of the department's protocol.
