Reeves church members pray for accused murderer, victim

Dade City, Florida — It's one of the only places accused theater shooter, Curtis Reeves is allowed to go now.

"He's always welcome in the house of the Lord," said First Baptist Church of Dade City member, Karen Hastings.

But some members said they're surprised to learn First Baptist is where Reeves usually spends his Sunday mornings.

"I didn't know the shooter went to our church," said member Rita Brandt.

Inside Sunday morning, Pastor Randy Huckabee offered a prayer.

"I just want to--especially this weekend--lift up Nicole Oulson to you and her Lord, I want you to just wrap your arms around her," he said.

One prayer for Oulson, another prayer was for her husband's accused killer and his family.

"Father we ask the same for Vivian, and Jennifer and Matt and little Madison...and for Curtis. Lord we trust that you will bless them today," Huckabee said.

For Reeves, who shot 43-year-old father Chad Oulson in a Wesley Chapel theater six months ago, religious services are one of the only reasons he can legitimately leave his home.

Reeves murder trial Judge Pat Siracusa ordered Reeves could be released under these terms:

  • A $150,000 bond.

  • He has to remain at his residence except when attending religious services, seeking medical treatment, or to go to the grocery store.

  • He's not allowed to have a firearm.

  • He has to wear an ankle bracelet for GPS monitoring.

In addition to the other stipulations, Curtis Reeves must also have no contact with Nicole Oulson.

But at First Baptist Church in Dade City, the accused killer was a no-show.

Instead, he is at his Brooksville home awaiting a murder trial that is likely to start early next year.

At his church, "he's God's child and he can be forgiven," Hastings said.

But, "you have to suffer the consequences of what you've done whether God's forgiven you or not," added Brandt.
