Sarasota bus annoyance turns violent

Sarasota, Florida -- An interaction that began as an annoyance turned violent and resulted in the arrest of one man.

A woman was riding a SCAT (Sarasota County Area Transit) Bus to work when 31-year-old Albert Singletary got on the bus and sat near her. During the ride, Singletary attempted to engage the victim in conversation but she ignored him.

Singletary then asked for the victim's name and she gave it to him. At this point Singletary began to repeat her name incessantly and then asked for the victim's phone number.

The victim refused to give out her phone number and then Singletary got up from his seat, removed his back flip phone, wallet and a light blue/silver box cutter knife from his pocket. The victim said that Singletary opened the knife to reveal the blade and then he closed it and put it away. The victim then exited the bus.

Albert Junior Singletary has been charged with felony aggravated assault after he intentionally and unlawfully threatened by word or act, to do violence to the victim.
