Lifeguards begin longer hours on Sarasota beaches

Sarasota, Florida -- Starting on Saturday, lifeguards will be working longer hours to keep you safe on Sarasota beaches.

The extended hours will be in place from May 24 until Labor Day. Lifeguards will be on duty from 10 a.m. until 6:45 every day. But this is only on the county's guarded beaches, which are:

  • Lido Beach
  • Manasota Beach
  • Nokomis Beach
  • North Jetty Beach
  • Siesta Beach
  • Venice Beach

Beaches that are unguarded and swimmers enter at their own risk are:

  • Brohard Beach
  • Blind Pass Beach
  • Casperson Beach
  • North Jetty Beach
  • Palmer Point Park
  • Service Club Park
  • Ted Sperling Park
  • Turtle Beach

Sarasota County public safety officials encourage all swimmers to:

  • Always follow the instructions of the lifeguards on duty.
  • Check with the lifeguards to determine swimming conditions before going in the water.
  • Don't overestimate your swimming capability.
  • Whenever possible, swim with a buddy.

All parking at Sarasota County beaches is free and available 6 a.m. to midnight 365 days a year.
