Sarasota, FL -- A great-grandfather, husband, and friend to many is dead after a vehicle slammed into his motorcycle.
His family is pleading for your help in finding the driver responsible after police said they left the scene.
"He was a big heart inside of a wonderful man," says Cherie Wren, Bill's wife.
71-year-old Bill Wren loved motorcycles more than anything.
"This was Bill and I," says Wren.
Well except for his family.
"He was my best friend and that's the difficult part of this. You don't just lose your spouse; you lose your best friend," says Wren.
Bill was on his way home—riding his motorcycle when he was hit.
"I was going to call him and ask him to pick up something but I figured I'd wait until he came home, but he didn't come home. He went home to heaven," says Wren.
At the intersection of Bee Ridge and Lockwood Ridge roads, a car rear-ended Bill's motorcycle dragging it 250 feet before fleeing.
"I'm sad that the person who hit his vehicle didn't feel the need to stay," says Wren.
Now, his family is pleading with the community hoping someone may know the person responsible because for the first time in more than 20 years, Cheri Wren will be heading to bed without her best friend.
"On the night, before his ride, he'd always give me two kisses, before he went to bed," says Wren.
Police say they believe the suspect's car is a silver or gray 4-door 1990s to 2000-year Honda, similar to the one picture above, with possible front-end damage.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Florida Highway Patrol at 239-938-1800, att. Corporal Jacquline Stevens.
