Fmr. Tampa chief explains why police confident about Seminole Heights arrest

Jane Castor calls Seminole Heights home and has been following the investigation closely.

TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa’s former police chief Jane Castor calls Seminole Heights home and now, like so many others, she says she’s relieved an arrest has been made in connection to the murders.

10News reporter Josh Sidorowicz spoke to Castor on Wednesday just hours after police provided more details on the arrest of Howell Donaldson III, who is now charged with murdering four people at random in Seminole Heights.

As a former police chief, Castor explained why investigators might appear to feel so confident they’ve arrested the right person.

Until Tuesday afternoon, Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan said police had no prior contact with Donaldson but he offered emphatic reassurance that police had the right suspect.

"I’m 100 percent certain," he said. "We wouldn’t arrest somebody if we didn’t think they were the ones who did it, especially in a case like this.”
