Sheriff: Polk man monitored female tenant

Lakeland, Florida -- A 35-year-old man has been accused of recording video of a female tenant in her own bedroom.

Armando Perez, 35, of the 7000 block of Briarbay Loop, has been charged with 15 counts of video voyeurism.

Polk County deputies were called to the house when the woman, who rents a room from Perez and his wife, found a camera had been set up in her bedroom without her permission.

The woman turned on a television and then a button on the remote control activated a "computer," according to the sheriff's office. She then saw a live image of her bedroom on the TV.

Detectives found the device was connected to a DVR and personal computer. They also found two pinhole cameras: one was hidden in a smoke detector and the other was in a cable access plate.

Deputies said a 23-year-old woman found 15 video clips of her naked in her bedroom that were all saved on his laptop.

They all live in the same home in Lakeland.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said Perez used an advanced recording system.

"He didn't just go into a room and set down a small camera," said Judd. "He wired this camera into the alarm system. He wired this camera into an electrical outlet. It was crafted. It was elaborate. It's sinister."

The sheriff's office is concerned Perez leaked the video clips on to the Internet.

Perez was located in Apopka and arrested on Thursday. He is being held in the Orange County Jail.
