Siblings hit by car on Bearss Avenue

Tampa, Florida -- Two siblings were struck by a car Friday as they tried to run across Bearss Avenue while walking home from Buchanan Middle School.

About 30 students from Buchanan were walking on the sidewalk about 1:30 p.m. when several students decided to run across Bearss, near Monet Drive. They were not in a crosswalk, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Brother and sister Nahomy and Abner Brizula were the last to try to cross the street and were hit by a Honda Civic driven by Juana Zurbana, the sheriff's office said.

15-year-old Nahomy and 12-year-old Abner are being treated at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Zurbana, 19, was cited for driving with a suspended license.
