Polk County, Florida -- Putting criminals behinds bars -- all thanks to citizens?
That's what a local law enforcement agency says is taking place as social media is helping solve some crimes quicker than ever before.
"Here's are Facebook page. As you see, there's 66,000 likes," says Carrie Horstman with the Polk County Sheriff's office.
She spends a lot of time on social media.
"Yesterday, I posted a letter from 11-year-old to a detective," says Horstman.
But lately, she's been posting things a bit more serious.
"Not something I expected when we started," says Horstman.
These days the sheriff' offices are posting pictures, videos to facebook and tweeting about crimes, suspects, anything that may help them solve a case.
"First one I solved I was thrilled. It took about an hour to solve and that got me excited," says Horstman.
Just this past week they posted a photo of a guy accused of stealing a woman's phone and within a couple of days online they were able to make an arrest.
"If we have video or photo of a crime, we're going to put it out there," says Horstman.
