Spanx founder talks success and coming home

Tampa, Florida - It's the shapewear that's taken the world by storm. Now, Spanx has a shiny new store in the place where the idea was born.

"Because I am a Florida girl at heart and there wasn't anything to wear under white pants!" says Sara Blakely as she sits on the brand new couch in her new store at International Plaza.

This is a full-circle moment for Blakely. What started as a $5,000 savings account is now a billion-dollar brand.

We asked her what it feels like to be sitting in a store in your hometown. "Totally and completely surreal. I went to Clearwater High, grew up on Clearwater Beach, I was born in Tampa General."

And she's feeling the hometown love. People waited in line for hours to get "The power panties," " the hi knee," or "the bra-lellujuah;" products that have made women look and feel fabulous.

Her mom and grandmother stood beside her as she cut into the next chapter of her success - a store full of Spanx for women of all shapes and sizes.

"I love them, they're great and they fit wonderfully," says Anna McElroy, who was buying her favorite Spanx.

Sara loves them too. Her latest favorites? The active pant and the bra.

"I'm in the bra right now and I'm telling you, this strap is like, it's regular molded cups, but it's made out of regular panty hose so it doesn't dig in, there's no back fat and I live in the bra-lellujah."

Spanx may have made her the world's youngest self-made female billionaire, but she's really proud to have a platform to help women.

"It was always in the back of my mind, I've had a lot of gratitude for being a woman born in America. I just didn't know that I would help their butts first!"

And for those of you who haven't slipped into some Spanx, Sara has this to say to you:

"Come on in! We're ready to cover your butt! Haha!"
