A St. Petersburg police sergeant and union official has been demoted after he threw a bullet at another officer, the department said.

According to our partners at The Tampa Bay Times, James D. "JD" Lofton was reduced in rank to officer for the Sept. 29 incident, in which he threw the bullet during a dispute at the other officer's home.

Lofton has been with the department since December 1999 and he is currently executive vice president of the local police union.
