Tampa, Florida -- If you're trying to sell your car, it can be a tough task. Experts say the best place to start is to know the true value of the car.
"Do a Kelly blue book and find out what the suggested retail should be to a private seller, and somewhere between there and the retail value is where you should market your car," said used car manager Alan Gilpatrick.
Once you determine the selling price, make sure the vehicle looks good.
"One of the most important things a person can do is to clean the car as much as possible, and get rid of any personal items to eliminate the car looking like it's your car. Get rid of any bumper stickers that might personalize the car, it should look like it was on a dealer's lot," said Craig Claro.
CRS Auto in Ybor City is one of the few a dealers in the country that will buy your car, regardless of its condition.
"In many situations, people have a car that they no longer need, they haven't driven in a very long time, and it's difficult to sell because it's broken in some fashion, we provide a service where we will tow the car for free, pay you for the vehicle and eliminate the problem that you have," Claro said.
To maximize the cash you get for your clunker, shop around -- go to a dealer, Car Max, even a mechanic.
