Wal-Mart remodel means new jobs

More than a 100 people have new jobs at a Wal-Mart in Brandon. It's all part of the biggest remodeling plan in the company's history.

The Brandon store is more than 220,000 square feet so you can imagine what a huge job it is.

One idea is to make grocery shopping at the store easier.

"Pets will be here, pharmacy... so when you're coming in and doing your grocery shopping, you don't have to traverse the whole store to get your shopping done," said store manager Sean Riley.

It's the first in a line of changes coming to Wal-Mart. And there's good reason. Grocery, pet and pharmacy make up 45 percent of the Brandon store's business.

It's all part of the most extensive remodel in Wal-Mart's history.

Everything from the lights to the floors. In fact, every single tile in the 227,000 square foot store will be replaced.

And the color is changing too. The yellow replaces the store's old royal blue.

New curved shelving is going into the grocery section for organic and specialty items. At this store in particular, more room is being made for Hispanic food.

The changes are all based on what people buy at each store.

Other Wal-Marts around the Bay area are going through similar remodels and they're looking to local temp agencies for workers.

Many of these opportunities could turn into full time jobs.
