Tampa, Florida - It was the worst earthquake to hit Italy in three decades and it claimed the lives of more than 200 people. In April, the quake rocked the small town of L'Aquila, which is northeast of Rome. Aftershocks damaged some 15,000 buildings across 26 cities.
This weekend, nine local Italian clubs are working together to hold a fundraiser for the survivors of the earthquake.
The Italian Earthquake Relief Effort will feature a silent auction, Mass, lunch and music. The event is Sunday, June 7th at The Ritz Theatre, which is located at 1503 E. 7th Avenue.
The silent auction starts at 10:30 a.m. Mass begins at 11:00 a.m. Lunch is served at 12:30 p.m. and Main Stream will provide the music.
Tickets are $20.00 per person. Call the Italian Club at (813) 248-3316 to purchase tickets.
Alice Rembado Mueller is the Manager of the Italian Club of Tampa. She talked to 10 Connects News Anchor Janie Porter about the fundraiser during 10 Connects This Morning - Saturday Edition.
