Lakeland, Florida - Over the weekend, several Friends-Together volunteers pedaled 300 miles over a period of three days in the heat during the 8th annual AIDS Ride for a Cause.

The cyclists collected pledges and then hit the road Friday. They finished the trek on Sunday by riding 100 miles each day. They say the hard work was well worth it.

Cathy Robinson-Pickett is the founder and director of Friends-Together and says, "We're raising money for our foundation, which works with children and families infected and affected by HIV and AIDS. The deep recession has hurt Friends-Together financially, because corporations and individuals have less money to donate. That is not stopping us, especially this year's bike riders, from raising money to fund the retreats while having a really fun time."

Cathy says money raised from fundraisers like this biking event will go to pay for free retreats they sponsor throughout the year for families affected by HIV/AIDS across the state.

Friends-Together is based out of Lakeland. For more information about Friends-Together, click here.
