Venice, Florida-- A report released this week suggests mandatory, standardized training for all 911 operators across Florida.

The year long study, conducted by the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice, points out underfunding in many areas and inconsistent service from county to county.

Among the recommendations in the report:

  • Appoint a state level position to oversee and coordinate all aspects of 911 emergency response in Florida.

  • Mandate minimum standards for training, protocol and equipment for all call centers.

  • Establish a state-level list of approved equipment.
