Tampa, Florida - An airplane made a hard landing at the Tampa Executive Airport Wednesday afternoon.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says it appears a single engine Cessna 206 was attempting to land, and the front landing gear failed in some way, causing the plane to slide over the runway and stop nose-down on the pavement.
The front wheel of the aircraft came off, which resulted in the prop hitting the runway and the plane doing a nose dive into the pavement.
The pilot was identified as Margaret Davidson, 81, of New Haven, CT. Her passenger husband, Donald Davidson, 82, was listed as the owner of the plane.
The sheriff's office said they were flying to Tampa to attend the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association conference being held at the Tampa Convention Center.
The NTSB will be investigating.
The Tampa executive Airport was formerly known as the Vandenberg Airport.
