Clearwater, Florida - 7-year-old, Alan Asmitia, remains in the hospital after being ejected from an SUV during a car accident on Saturday.

A Clearwater Police Traffic Homicide Team is investigating the accident which happened at Cleveland Street and Belcher.

Detectives say Filiberto Belmont, of Clearwater, was driving a Ford Explorer eastbound on Cleveland Street when he ran the red light at Belcher Road. Belmont, according to police, slammed into a Ford F150 truck that was driven by James Preston of Clearwater. Preston was headed south bound on Belcher Road.

Alan Asmitia was in the cargo department of Belmont's vehicle. He was not in a seat and wasn't wearing a seatbelt. He was ejected out of the rear glass window and was pinned between a light pole and a third vehicle, according to police.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
