Tampa, Florida - Has USF basketball committed a list of NCAA violations?
That remains to be seen. But an online sports message board site is alleging a host of NCAA infractions supposedly confirmed to Fanhouse.com by those close to the program.
Among USF's alleged NCAA violations by Fanhouse.com:
-- An assistant allegedly providing transportation for an athlete on numerous occasions that is beyond NCAA allowances.
-- USF Coaches, including Head Coach Stan Heath, allegedly attending workouts of more than four players with a basketball before the NCAA allowed date of Sept. 15, 2009 and an assistant watching open gym workouts on three occasions in May.
-- Alleged cover up of the buglary of a former player's apartment by current players.
Heath denied the allegations to Fanhouse.com. 10Connects Sports contacted the program late Wednesday night for comment. On Thursday afternoon, USF Assistant Athletics Director for Communications Chris Freet issued this statement:
"We will carefully review the issues raised in an internet report. If we discover any issues that warrant action, we will address in an appropriate manner. USF staff and personnel will have no further comment at this time."
However, WCIV-TV Sports in Charleston, South Carolina did catch up with Heath before Thursday night's game against Davidson. Heath would not respond to the allegations but only say that they would not affect that night's game against the Wildcats.
"Our focus is on Davidson," Heath said.
After the game, which the Bulls won, 65-58, Heath simply said, "At the appropriate time, I will definately have something to say."
