10 Connects Hero: Pedaling with passion

Lutz, Florida - Robby Rodriguez is an avid bicyclist who loves the feeling of freedom he gets.

"No emails, no cell phones; just enjoying yourself," says Rodriguez as he rides around his neighborhood.

Rodriguez often takes part in charity bike rides and tomorrow is no exception. He'll participate in another rolling fundraiser.

"You're supporting the community, helping people out and you're also having fun on your bike."

But on Saturday, Rodriguez will probably pedal with a bit more passion, because he helped organize the ride and the cause is near and dear.  You see, the ride benefits the Tampa group United Cerebral Palsy and his 3-year-old son Cooper was recently diagnosed with the condition.

"The staff that they have there are just awesome," says Rodriguez of the UCP group, also known as Achieve Tampa Bay.

The organization provides therapy services to both kids and adults with various disabilities. It's a not-for-profit, so fundraisers and the efforts of volunteers like Rodriguez keep the place going.

"It's always humbling and wonderful to see the people who do give so much, to help us give back to the community," says Achieve Tampa Bay Executive Director Laura White.

The theme of Saturday's bike fundraiser is "Ride Without Limits," and that's exactly what Rodriguez hopes his son's future will be-a ride without limits.

"Go Cooper," Rodriguez to his son riding alongside him on a trike.

Ride Without Limits takes place Saturday, November 21 at J.B. Starkey Park in New Port Richey.
