Tour world's largest cruise ship

Fort Lauderdale, Florida - Florida is now home to the world's largest cruise ship and some travel experts say Oasis of the Seas will be a "game changer."

Royal Caribbean's massive new ship will call Port Everglades home and features a 750-seat outdoor aqua amphitheater, the first ever cruise ship zip line, a park, a handcrafted carousel, an ice skating rink, a casino, interior balconies and room for more than 6,000 passengers.

"It's really a revolutionary ship," said Gene Sloan the cruise editor for USA Today.

In fact, Sloan believes Oasis itself will become a destination for travelers while getting more people to try cruising. "This takes cruising to a whole new level. This ship is the first cruise ship that really can go head to head with some of the great resorts of the world," added Sloan.

By the numbers, Oasis is 1,187 feet long, weighs more than 225,000 tons and has more than 2,700 staterooms. Royal Caribbean says that's more rooms than the average size Las Vegas hotel.

Yet the editor in chief of Cruise Critic says Oasis does not feel that big because Royal Caribbean has created seven different neighborhoods on the ship. Carolyn Spencer Brown points to an interior neighborhood called Central Park as an example.

"You actually don't even remember you're on a ship in there. It's lush and green and there's a nice breeze and a blue sky up above and yet you don't see the ocean and it's the weirdest feeling," said Spencer Brown.

Oasis cost $1.5 billion to build and its maiden voyage is set for December 1st.  But some rooms, including the ship's most expensive are already sold out for the next two years.

With a number of early positive reviews Sloan also believes Oasis will cement Royal Caribbean's CEO Richard Fain's reputation. "I think with this ship, he's going to go down as one of the great innovators of the travel business. I mean I think this is on par with what Walt Disney did with Disney World or what Steve Winn did in Las Vegas," Sloan said.
