One dead, 4 hurt, in Fort Meade crash

Fort Meade, Florida -- One prson was killed and four other family members were injured today in a one cehicle crash on Highway 98 East.

The crash closed the road to traffic for some five hours  , between Lake Hendry and Lake Buffum Roads, the sheriff's office said.

Driver Frederico Castillo, 35, of Frostproof lost control of his pickup for unknown reasons, left the road a struck a tree.

His mother-in-law, Felipa Venegas, 59, died at the scene.

Castillo was hospitalized along with his sons, Frederico, 15, and Gilbert, 14, and nephew Chris Sales, 15.

Deputies said no one in the vehicle wore a seat belt.  Everyone was ejected from the vehicle except Sales, deputies said.
