Tampa, Florida - Protestors against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan used the popularity of the MacDill Airfest as a way to spread their message Saturday.

Members of Veterans for Peace sponsored a vigil for peace. For about four hours, they held signs at the corner of Dale Mabry Highway and Gandy Boulevard near MacDill Airforce Base.

Saturday is the anniversary of the start of the Iraq War.

Protestors plan to gather in the same place on Sunday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. and they're hoping the public will join them.

Jay Alexander is a member of the group and says, "We hope to get a lot of people seeing us and taking the message home with them that eight years in Afghanistan and seven years in Iraq is a little bit too much."

Protestors say they want to honor the warrior but not the war.

Similar demonstrations are also being held in Washington, D.C. this weekend.
