St. Petersburg, Florida - An emotional memorial service was held Saturday morning for 31-year-old David Lee Carter. Carter was killed Sunday, Feb. 13 in a hit and run crash. His body was found around 2 a.m. in the roadway along Seminole Boulevard just south of 119th Avenue North in Largo.
Florida Highway Patrol says Carter was hit by a vehicle that didn't stop. No witnesses have come forward and, at this point, there isn't a description of the vehicle that hit Carter.
Carter's friends gathered at 30th Avenue Baptist Church in St. Petersburg to honor the memory of Carter. His friend, Thomas Horvath, says he touched a lot of lives with his caring spirt and sense of humor. He says Carter's friends and family are hoping to draw more attention to the case in hopes that it will be solved and an arrest will be made.
Horvath says, "It would help out a lot just to know that his life wasn't taken in vain. I mean, just to know the person that took his life was in jail or caught or would just come forward and say an apology. I mean, it's not going to bring him back, but just to know that his death wasn't for nothing."
Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate. If you witnessed the accident or know who is involved, call Corporal Jim Atwood at 727 570-5010 extension 309.
