Superstorm Sandy cut power for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and an estimated 5.7 million people altogether across the East. The full extent of the storm's damage across the region was unclear, and unlikely to be known until daybreak.
Connecticut
Connecticut Light & Power (which offers outage reports in both map and tableformats) says about 494,000 customers were without power.
Delaware and Maryland
Delmarva reports more than 76,000 customers lost power, with more than 1,130 active outages.
BGE reports restoring service to more than 51,000 customers; about 215,500 are still without power.
PEPCO had at least 39,300 customers out, with more than 1,100 active outages.
More than 62,600 outages were reported by Mon Power and Potomac Edison.
Massachusetts
NStar reported about 107,100 outages.
Additional outages were reported by Western Massachusetts Electric Co. (about 11,000 customers) and Unitil (33,265 customers).
National Grid says more than 218,500 customers had lost power, with more than 1,900 active outages.
Maine
Central Maine Power reports at least 86,900 customers without power. Bangor Hydro reports more than 3,900 customers affected.
New Hampshire
Unitil reports more than 32,900 customers lost power.
National Grid says more than 8,300 customers had lost power, with more than 80 active outages.
New Jersey
Public Service Electric & Gas, which is tweeting outage information, says a million customers are offline. Jersey Central Power & Light, whichpublishes map of outages, is reporting more than 926,400 homes lost power. Atlantic City Electrichas about 204,600 outages.
New York
LILCO reports more than 840,800 customers on Long Island were without power (about 2,700 of those are active outages). Con Edison reports more than 612,100 customers were without power in New York City and Westchester.
In upstate New York NYSEG reports more than 102,800 customers affected.
National Grid had more than 27,000 outages.
North Carolina
Duke Energy reports more than 6,600 customers lost power. Progress Energyreports more than 10,300 customers lost power, with 125 active outages.
Ohio
First Energy reports more than 214,100 customers reported blackouts.
Additional outages have been reported by Duke Energy (126), DP&L (more than 350), and South Central Power (more than 430).
Pennsylvania
Peco in southeastern Pennsylvania was reporting more than 250,000 outages.
FirstEnergy was reporting more than 266,400 customers were without power.
PPL Electric Utilities was reporting more than 380,700 outages.
Rhode Island
National Grid says more than 119,600 customers had lost power, with more than 640 active outages.
Virginia
Dominion Virginia says more than 147,400 customers were without service.
Vermont
Green Mountain Power reports more than 9,400 customers affected.
