Winter Haven, FL-- A tip about gambling machines at a local convenience store landed two men behind bars Monday after officials located the machines, and much more within the store.
According to reports, detectives arrested the owner of the 7 Days Food Mart off 6th St. NW, 28-year-old Vishal Patel, as well as a clerk at the store, 22-year-old Mitul Patel, after finding three fully operational gambling devices by the front checkout counter.
The two "Electronic Cherry Picker" machines and another quarter machine were in violation of the Florida gambling statute.
During the detectives' investigation of the store, they also discovered the store owner and clerk were selling drug scales, glass pipes and Chore Boy screens- all illegal drug paraphernalia, reports say.
Both men were arrested and transported to the Polk County Jail.
Mitul was charged with Keeping a Gambling House, three counts of Possession of Gambling Devices and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Vishal, the owner, was also charged with Keeping a Gambling House and Possession of Gambling Devices, but received a felony charge of Wholesale Distribution of Drug Paraphernalia.
Both men have since been released.
