Paris, France (Sports Network) - Last year's French Open runner-up Sara
Errani posted a match win at another Parisian tennis tournament on Thursday,
as the Italian star reached the quarterfinals at the GDF Suez Open.
The top-seeded Italian was leading Magdalena Rybarikova 4-0 in the first set
of their second-round match on Day 4 when the Slovakian qualifier retired due
to a stomach virus at Stade Coubertin.
Errani's quarterfinal opponent on Friday will be capable Spaniard Carla Suarez
Navarro.
In other second-round action involving seeds, Dutch lucky-loser Kiki Bertens
ousted No. 4 Slovak Dominika Cibulkova 7-5, 6-4, No. 6 Czech Lucie Safarova
held off Frenchwoman Alize Cornet 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 and Suarez Navarro toppled No.
8 Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-3. Safarova was the runner-up
at this event in 2007 and 2010.
One other match saw French wild card Kristina Mladenovic dismiss Belgian
Yanina Wickmayer 6-4, 6-4. Mladenovic is rewarded with a quarterfinal against
second-seeded former Wimbledon champion and 2011 GDF Suez titlist Petra
Kvitova.
Also on Friday, third-seeded French star Marion Bartoli will meet German Mona
Barthel and Safarova will encounter Bertens. The former Wimbledon runner-up
Bartoli lost to German Angelique Kerber in last year's finale in Paris.
The winner of this $690,000 event will collect $125,000.
The Sports Network
