(USA TODAY) MTV has just announced a first: The 2013 Video Music Awards will take place in Brooklyn.
The show will air live from Barclays Center on Aug. 25, and not only will it mark the 30th anniversary of the show, but it will also be the first major annual award show to take place in the borough of Brooklyn.
"Brooklyn is home to icons like the Cyclone in Coney Island and the Brooklyn Bridge, and now it can lay claim to the MTV 'Video Music Awards,' " said Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg in the announcement.
Last year's VMAs were broadcast from Staples Center in L.A. Since the VMAs began in 1984, the awards show that honors music videos has been broadcast from various venues, including Manhattan, Miami and Las Vegas.

And don't get the VMAs confused with the MTV Movie Awards. That show will air live on April 14 at 9 p.m. from the Sony Pictures Studios Lot in Culver City, Calif., with host Rebel Wilson.
