Clearwater, Florida -- The Humane Society of Pinellas is excited to announced its Pick Me! Project is breaking records!
The animal shelter says it hit a major milestone Thursday evening -- the total dog and cat adoptions for June 2013 matched the number of adoptions in all of June 2012.
"Last year, it took all of June to put 172 dogs and cats into loving new homes, and this year, thanks to our community, we did it in under 2 weeks!" a shelter spokesperson said.
This adoption milestone is especially noteworthy, since last week the shelter suffered roof damage during Tropical Storm Andrea and was closed for a day and a half.
HSP is one of 49 shelters nationwide competing for grant dollars in the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge by attempting to adopt out more cats and dogs this June, July, and August than ever before.
"We're so proud of our progress, and this is only the beginning," said HSP's Executive Director Sarah Brown. "This is a community effort."
There are many opportunities to get involved, even if you can't adopt a pet. To follow the Pick Me! Project and to find out how to help, visit HumaneSocietyofPinellas.org/100K.
