ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - The Tampa Bay Rays baseball team is suing the Department of Revenue over a dispute about alleged unpaid taxes.
The Tampa Bay Times reports that in 2011, the Department of Revenue determined the Rays had underpaid state sales tax by $1.3 million between 2006 and 2009.
The team agreed with certain aspects of the state's demands and paid an unspecified amount of the owed money.
A lawsuit was filed on June 12. It alleges that two of the department's conclusions were erroneous - that the team owes sales tax on prepared meals it purchased for suite renters and that the team owes sales tax on ticket sales given to the city of St. Petersburg.
It remains unclear how much of the $1.3 million is being contested.
