Tampa, Florida -- Katie Couric, who will become the Anchor and Managing Editor of the CBS Evening News in September, visits the Tampa Bay area today as part of her "Eye on America" six-city tour.
During her visit to Tampa Bay, Couric will serve as the keynote speaker at a sold out fundraising breakfast to benefit the Florida Division of the American Cancer Society.
“Cancer has touched me personally with the loss of my husband to colon cancer and my sister to pancreatic cancer,” Couric said. “I have made a commitment to do whatever I can to increase awareness and raise research dollars to help scientists develop treatments that will enable more people to live with cancer and, ultimately, lead to the eradication of this disease.”
Couric’s keynote address will kick off the fundraising campaign for No Excuses: The Campaign to Defeat Colon Cancer in Florida. The breakfast, set for 8:00 a.m. on July 10th, will be held at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen-Booth Road, Clearwater. The cost to attend is $150 per person.
She will also talk with Reginald Roundtree and Heather Van Nest today on Life Around the Bay and 4 o'clock and on our 6 o'clock news.
