PALMETTO, Florida (AP) — A Palmetto man who jumped a bridge after a $20 bill says that's a lot of money when you're broke.
Mark Giorgio jumped off the US 41 bridge into the Manatee River, falling over 40 feet into the water, just to get his twenty-dollar bill back.
The 47-year-old Giorgio says he is homeless and was counting his money as he walked across the bridge when the bill slipped out of his hand.
Giorgio was taken to shore by a passing Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission boat. Police officers arrived at the scene after someone called to say they saw a man jump.
Giorgio suffered a couple of cuts and refused medical treatment. He was not arrested.
