Gulfport, Florida - Gulfport Police arrested an off-duty St. Petersburg Police officer early this morning for DUI.

St. Petersburg Police say a resident flagged down a Gulfport Police officer on Shore Boulevard around 2:00 a.m. saying a man was asleep at the wheel of a parked pick-up truck.

The officer determined that it was off-duty St. Petersburg policeman Steven Pugh - a 20 year veteran and a member of the force's K-9 unit.

Police say Pugh had been drinking alcohol while celebrating at a birthday party in the area, then went to his personal pick-up truck where he turned on the engine, turned on the heater inside of the vehicle, and then either passed out or fell asleep while seated behind the wheel.

Pugh was arrested for DUI and booked into the Pinellas County Jail with a $250.00 bond.

St. Petersburg Police's Internal Affairs department is conducting an administrative investigation of this situation.
