St. Petersburg, Florida – Four years ago the United States sounded the drums of war and invaded Iraq. In St. Petersburg Saturday evening there was again the sound of drums, but on this occasion the people sitting in a giant circle in Williams Park were beating out a rhythm for peace.

Later as the sun set about 100 people marched through downtown streets to mark the 4th Anniversary of the Iraq War. Organizers say they wanted to add their voices of protest to those heard in Washington and around the country on this day.

Chris Ernest, St. Pete for Peace:
“The message is that as long as we go around terrorizing the world, we can expect terrorism attacks in return.”

Steven Sneed Jr. joined the march. The former Marine says he served two tours in Iraq and that his 19-year-old brother is head there next month. But Sneed says he’s not sure anyone is there for a good reason.

Steven Sneed Jr., War protester:
“I’m 100 percent for the troops. I want the war to come to an end. I want my fellow soldiers home.”

Protesters held signs and chanted ant-war and anti-Bush slogans. To some of the boisterous the march was clearly empowering. But others were more soft spoken and they just hoped their quiet, small steps would somehow make a difference.

Laura Jamenez, War protester:
“Well, because I feel better if I do something. I don’t know if it will help, but I feel better.”
