UPDATE: The exotic parrot named Skittles was returned Monday night to Petland in Tampa. Hillsborough County deputies say someone called the store manager saying they wanted to return Skittles and would wait at the McDonald's at Hanley and Waters Avenue. Hillsborough County deputies went there where they say 24-year-old Henry John Roman turned over the bird without incident. He has been charged with Grand Theft.
Tampa, Florida - Owners of a Tampa pet store say an exotic $2000 parrot was stolen in the middle of the day while employees weren’t looking.
“I can’t believe someone would actually steal a bird,” said Deidra Rosenberg, an assistant manager at the Petland Pet Store on West Waters Avenue.
A man and two women were caught on tape leaving with the bird Thursday afternoon. Employees of the store say the Yellow Shoulder Amazon Parrot was much like a part of the family. A ferret was also taken from a second pet store nearby by a man matching a similar description.
A reward is being offered for the bird’s safe return.
