PORT RICHEY, Fla. (AP) — A state House candidate in the Tampa area is drawing criticism for his affiliation with a group that promotes the creation of “white-only living spaces.”
John Ubele is running with no party affiliation for the Pasco County seat of Representative John Legg, a Republican from Port Richey.
He's operations manager of the Nationalist Coalition. The group's Web site says it supports “white activism" and will ”do whatever is necessary to achieve this White living space and to keep it White."
Ubele says his candidacy's biggest issue is trying to figure out how to lower homeowners insurance rates. His views on race relations, immigration and civil rights are not relevant, he says, because most of those issues are federal, rather than state ones.
