St. Petersburg, Florida — The health department kept one beach closed to swimmers because of poor water quality today and lifted its advisory on another.
Water samples at the Treasure Island Beach showed a potential health risk to swimmers due to levels of bacteria, including fecal coliform. Water quality improved enough to open the North Shore Beach.
The usual sources of the bacteria are storm water run-off, pets, wildlife and sewage.
