Largo, Florida - A retired police officer from New Jersey has been charged with possessing child pornography on a videotape he bought from an overseas source, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.
Peter F. Kochen, 62, was charged with one count of sexual performance by a minor and released on $5,000 bail. The sheriff's office said he is a retired police officer from Plainfield, New Jersey.
Kochen told detectives he received the tape in the mail. Postal inspectors initially referred the case to the U.S. Attorney's Office for prosecution in federal court, but detectives were later notified that federal prosecutors felt the case should be handled in state court.
Detectives seized the tape, which they say included sexual conduct by a prepubescent child.
