Clearwater, Florida - A young Marine is at the center of a guardianship battle between his parents. John Graziano was severely injured in a car crash involving his good friend Nick Bollea, Hulk Hogan’s son.
Graziano is said to have injuries so serious it will require special care for the rest of his life. Now his parents are arguing over who will be the one in charge of looking after him.
Graziano and Bollea were hurt when the Toyota Supra they were riding in lost control on Court Street in Clearwater, back in August. Bollea was driving and Graziano was not wearing his seatbelt.
Graziano has remained in Bayfront Medical Center since that evening. His mother, Debra, was granted temporary guardianship on September 27th. This allows her to apply for military benefits for her son.
Graziano's father, also named John, is contesting her move for guardianship. The injured Marine is reportedly in a coma on life support.
The 22-year-old is said to respond to a pinch and has a gag reflex, but does not respond to touch or sound. One expert says his pupils are fixed, meaning they don't respond to light. However, this apparently doesn't mean he is brain dead.
A guardianship hearing was scheduled for 9 a.m. in Clearwater, but is set to continue. No new date is set.
John Graziano is listed in critical condition at Bayfront Medical Center.
Witnesses say Bollea's Supra may have been drag racing in the moments before the crash. Police have not confirmed that.
So far, no charges have been filed in the case.
