MUG: "Real Genius" charged in teen sex battery

Tampa, Florida – Deputies have arrested a Seminole man on charges he had sex with two young girls he met on MySpace.

Edward Oberwise, 37, is charged with 10 counts of Lewd or Lascivious Battery.

Detectives say the parents of a 14-year-old girl contacted them after she confided to them that she and her 12-year-old friend had corresponded with Oberwise on a My Space account owned by the 12-year-old.

Both girls met with Oberwise Thursday of last week and had sex with him, they said.

“The suspect re-contacted the 12-year-old victim by text message to her cellular phone and wanted to arrange another meeting,” the sheriff's office said in a statement.

When he arrived, he was arrested and taken to the Orient Road jail. When booked, he wore a t-shirt bearing the words: "Real Men of Genius."

Detectives said they feared there may be other victims, and asked anyone with information about Oberwise contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at 247-8200 or Crime Stoppers at 1800-873-8477.
